Our world is filled with troubles of all kinds, and it’s easy to become so overwhelmed by all of the suffering we see around us that our hearts become hardened to it all.
We forget that every single person on this earth is just as beloved of God as we are, no matter their race, nationality, beliefs, history, choices, religion, gender, age, abilities, or any other way in which we try to separate people into “other.”
To the degree that we do remain compassionate, we may pray for God to fix things while forgetting that we are His hands on this earth, and it’s up to us to offer comfort, aid, assistance, justice, and compassion where it’s needed.
This set of prayers for an Anglican rosary is focused on the suffering of our troubled world and asking for God’s help in softening our hearts enough to stay engaged in the work of being His hands offering good things to those in need.
| Cross: | You have commanded us to love one another. Open my heart so that I may follow your law. Make me a mirror of the love, compassion, and mercy which you so freely give. |
| Invitatory bead: | My soul magnifies the Lord, Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: |
| Cruciform beads: | Lord, you have shown us what is good. You require us to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. (adapted from Micah 6:8) Help me to do good in this troubled world. |
| Week bead 1: | Lord, have mercy on the poor and enslaved of this world, who are struggling to survive. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to come to their aid. |
| Week bead 2: | Lord, have mercy on the victims of war on all sides of the earth’s many conflicts. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to work toward peace and the end of their suffering. |
| Week bead 3: | Lord, have mercy on those afflicted by injustice, persecution, and discrimination. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to work toward greater justice for all. |
| Week bead 4: | Lord, have mercy on those who are the victims of abuse, crime, violence, and natural disasters. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to work toward opportunities for them to find healing. |
| Week bead 5: | Lord, have mercy on those who are suffering from illness, injury, or disability. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to offer comfort and assistance. |
| Week bead 6: | Lord, have mercy on those who are dying. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to be present with them as they leave this world. |
| Week bead 7: | Lord, have mercy on those who are grieving the loss of people, opportunities, and things that are precious to them. Help me see them with your compassion and open my heart to see them as your children, so that I am inspired to offer comfort and aid in their heartache. |
| Invitatory bead: | You have promised to give me a new heart and put a new spirit in me. Remove from me my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh, so that I may act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. (adapted from Ezekiel 36:26 and Micah 6:8) |
| Cross: | In the name of Jesus, who gave himself for us out of love, I pray these things. Amen. |
