The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an ecumenical observance that is part of the Christian calendar in a wide range of denominations. It is observed January 18-25 in the Northern Hemisphere and between Ascension Day and Pentecost in the Southern Hemisphere.
This week is a time to remember the many ways God has called us to be united as Body (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) and to pray for help in remembering to love one another as he has commanded (John 13:34-35).
This set of prayers for an Anglican rosary is designed for this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity to ask God to help us better love one another in greater unity.
| Cross: | There is but one Body and one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all. Make us all of one heart and of one soul, united in the holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and one mouth glorify You, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (adapted from the prayer for the unity of the church from The Book of Common Prayer, p.818) |
| Invitatory bead: | Almighty Father, whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one: Grant that your Church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one one Spirit, that the world may believe in Him whom You have sent, Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen (the collect for the unity of the Church from The Book of Common Prayer, p.255) |
| Cruciform beads: | Lord Jesus, you gave us a new commandment to love one another and told us that everyone will know that we are your disciples by our love for one another. (John 13:34-35) Help me live out this commandment of yours this day for I can only do so with your help. |
| Week beads 1-7: | Lord, help me to love You with all my heart, and with all my soul, and with all my strength, and with all my mind; and to love my neighbor as myself. (adapted from Luke 10:27) |
| Invitatory bead: | There is but one Body and one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all.
| Cross: | Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, “Peace I give to you, my own peace I leave with you.” Regard not our sins but the faith of your Church, and give to us the peace and unity of that Heavenly City, where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, now and forever. Amen. (the collect at the prayers #6 from The Book of Common Prayer, p.395) |
