Praying for renewal

This world often overwhelms our bodies, minds, emotions, and spirits and leaves us struggling to have the focus and strength to serve God with our best. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, Paul says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” This is a reminder that God is able to renew us daily from these stresses and overwhelms of life no matter what we face.

This set of prayers for use with an Anglican rosary is focused on asking for this kind of renewal. Each week of the rosary focuses on a different area of renewal: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. These prayers are filled with God’s promises to renew and sustain us. May they help to renew you for God’s service.

Cross:In the name of the One who creates, renews, and sustains us.
Amen.
Invitatory bead:O God, in the course of this busy life, give us times of
refreshment and peace; and grant that we may so use our
leisure to rebuild our bodies and renew our minds, that our
spirits may be opened to the goodness of your creation;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
(Prayer #32 from The Book of Common Prayer)
Cruciform bead 1:
(Physical renewal)
Lord, my body is tired and aching,
and it keeps me from accomplishing all I wish to do.
You promise us that but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength, will soar on wings like eagles,
will run and not grow weary, and will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
Renew my body and my strength as I hope in You.
Week beads 1-7:Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
(Psalm 61:1)
Cruciform bead 2:
(Mental renewal)
Lord, my mind is overwhelmed from all that comes at me day by day.
It is hard to focus and to have the wisdom to know what to do.
You tell us that from You comes wisdom,
and from Your mouth comes knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)
Renew my mind to be to focus on You
and see my life with Your wisdom and understanding.
Week beads 1-7:Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
(Psalm 61:1)
Cruciform bead 3:
(Emotional renewal)
Lord, my heart is aching and my emotions overwhelm me.
Relieve the troubles of my heart
and free me from my anguish. (Psalm 25:17)
Renew my emotions so that I am able to serve you more effectively.
Week beads 1-7:Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
(Psalm 61:1)
Cruciform bead 4:
(Spiritual renewal)
Lord, my spirit has become jaded by your gift of salvation
and has forgotten the many gifts you give me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. (Psalm 51:12)
Renew my spirit so that I can love You more fully.
Week beads 1-7:Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
(Psalm 61:1)
Cruciform bead 1:
(Upon returning to
the start)
Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly, God, to help me.
(Psalm 71:12)
Invitatory bead:O God of peace, who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved,
in quietness and confidence shall be our strength:
By the might of your Spirit lift us, we pray you, to your presence,
where we may be still and know that you are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
(Collect for quiet confidence from The Book of Common Prayer)
Cross:All glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us,
to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20)
Amen.
